On The Road Again: Charleston, SC

The day after I turned 29, I decided that I wanted to take a trip to celebrate my 30th birthday.  With only a little convincing, I managed to get eight of my closest college friends to join me in New Orleans in April of 2012.  We had the greatest time and vowed to continue the tradition in a new city each year, the only rule being that everyone has to fly to the location.

Last year we took a little hiatus and spent a weekend with Truax's high school friends in Rhode Island but we were intent on getting back on track this year.  As it's nearly impossible to find a date that works for everyone, six of us flew down to Charleston for two nights in a beach house in nearby Isle of Palms.

I have spent very little time in the south but absolutely loved Charleston.  It has incredibly charming quiet streets, fabulous shopping and a ton of history.  There are plantations to explore, Fort Sumter to learn about and endless restaurants to stuff yourself full of fried green tomatoes, biscuits and grits.  The people live up to their reputation of being endlessly welcoming and warm - even when we plopped ourselves down on beach chairs reserved by some other beach goers, they couldn't have been nicer when they kicked us out!

The weather was perfect, the food incredible and the company, as always, the best.  I think we're all quite aware of how lucky we are to have each other in our lives just shy of ten years after graduation.  Already looking forward to our 2015 plans in Napa!

Thank goodness for the good 'ol self timer!
